Backflow Testing FAQs

Backflow is a reversal of the normal direction of water flow in a water supply system, whereby contaminants can enter the normal drinking water supply. This reverse flow of water can cause health risks to any property connected to that water supply plumbing system.

Backflow can occur when the pressure changes within your pipes and causes water to flow in reverse. The pressure in your water system can fall below the pressure in your home or business water line and cause backflow. Backflow can pose a serious health risk and taint the water supply that isn’t safe to consume.

The inspection of you water system, installation and annual testing of an approved backflow assembly will help protect you home and business from backflow conditions.

A backflow prevention assembly, or “backflow assembly,” for short, is a mechanical device incorporated into your plumbing system with one-way valves that prevent potential contaminants from reversing flow (backflow) and entering the drinking water system of a dwelling or the city water supply.

Backflow assemblies are installed in various locations whether Residential- Swimming Pools, Irrigation systems, water softeners, and private water wells to commercial and industrial facilities to prevent the reverse flow of potentially contaminated water. These installations are typically required in commercial, industrial, residential, and public settings to ensure the safety and quality of the water supply. By strategically placing backflow assemblies, we mitigate the risk of cross-contamination and comply with local regulations to protect public health.
